5 Points 4 Paws

Pet of the Week: Gracie

Mom's away, but this dog will still play! That's because Mom hired Five Points Four Paws pet sitters. They came over in the snow and freezing rain to check on us ( I have two more sisters living here at our house). We are all rescues and very happy to have found such a great mom who would hire a pet sitter for us during the holidays. We sure miss Mom, but having a pet sitter come over to give us treats and loving everyday is not bad at all! Thanks Mom!

Adoptable Pet of the Week: Earnest

Are you my mother?

  • Age: 1 Year
  • Breed: Shepherd Mix
  • Gender: Male
  • Weight: 62lbs
  • Impound Date: 10/30/10
  • Ledger #: 31372

My time is up! I've been in the shelter for too long and my family never came to get me. Will you take me home?

Call: 706-613-3540

Shelter location: Athens – Clarke County Animal Control, 45 Beaverdam Ext., Athens, Georgia 30605

Earnest was obviously someone’s pet at some point because he is a rather mild-mannered dog with basic obedience skills. Other than being a little underweight, he seems to be in good condition and is adorned in an expensive looking rolled leather collar. He seems a little anxious to be in this kind of environment but regardless, he would sit when asked and leaned into my hand when I pet him. Along with being a beautiful, tall and lean dog, he has cute satellite ears that poke straight to the side when he’s alert. If his family does not find him at the shelter, he will be looking for a new home so come see if he’s the right fit for you!

Adoptable Pet of the Week: Cookie

Hi! My name is Cookie and I need a home. I will love you forever and ever and ever! They say my time is up soon, so please come get me, quick! Plus the shelter just got a ton of new dogs in here this weekend and that makes me nervous that they don't have room for me anymore.

  • Age: 1 yr
  • Breed: Beagle Hound Mix
  • Gender: Male
  • Impound Date: 10/25/10
  • Ledger Number: 31345
  • Call the Athens Animal Shelter at 706-613-3540, hours 10am-4pm every day except Wednesday

Please use the ledger number, not the name, when calling about a dog.

Cookie’s one of the most playful and excited dogs I’ve encountered at the shelter! He may need a little bit of training since he likes to pull on the leash and jump on people, but otherwise he knows the command ’sit’ and probably a has a few more up his sleeve if you take your time to squeeze them out of him! He’s definitely a family-friendly addition to your home, wanting lots of play and love. He’s waiting and excited to see you, so stop by and see Cookie asap!

Pet of the Week: Honey

"Don't hate me because I'm beautiful..."

Congratulations to our newest Pet of the Week! Honey is the youngest of three Basset Hounds we recently had the pleasure of watching. Though all three of these pooches were courteous and polite, Honey was the most eager to be photographed.

"Honey loves attention, so she'd be happy for more attention as pet of the week," said Nancy, mother of the honored pup. She did mention that Ceili, the other female of the three, would be jealous. Fortunately, according to Nancy, Shiloh, the only male, would not be bothered by Honey's award because he "has his own sense of inner worth."

All of these beautiful dogs love belly and back rubs and they are extremely fortunate to have a home where there's plenty of love and attention to go around.

"Honey was picked up as a stray in April 2010 and Shiloh was rescue," Nancy explained.  "So, I guess I'm getting on the kick of encouraging adoption of non-puppies. Both are purebreeds - just fell on hard times through no fault of their personalities."

Pet of the Week: Tilly

"That's right. I'm the Five Points Four Paws Pet of the Week. I'm kind of a big deal."Sorry we're a day late posting this, but we love her just the same. Meet our latest Pet of the Week, Tilly. Tilly has been a treat for both of us to take care of the last couple of weeks. When Mom and Dad leave town, nothing makes her happier than for Five Points Four Paws pet sitters to take her on a walk and rub her belly. In fact, we're pretty sure she would be happy to just have her belly rubbed the whole time we see her. The second you rub this pup's head, she rolls over on her back and soaks up every bit of loving you'll give her. Thanks to Mary Anne (Mom) for trusting us with her!
